Just as she did last year, Melissa Ulto invites you to spend Valentine's
Day in a dark movie theatre watching erotic films and burlesque babes.
The films will be judged and prizes will be awarded in the categories
of fiction, documentary, short and animation/experimental. This year's
venue is the dark and mysterious Red Room theater, part of the KGB
Bar/Kraine Theater building. You and your date could dine in one of
the many neighborhood restaurants close to the theater; it's a sexy
spin on dinner and a movie that should leave you sated in more ways
than one.
The original SinCiné debuted in 2002 as an erotic party in
conjunction with a film festival. Last year over twenty sexy films
were screened at SinCiné 2005: The Second Cumming, held at
The Gallery at The Gershwin. Elizabeth Elson took home the Best Long
Documentary prize for Born in a Barn, Jeffrey Lei's mockumentary Dick
Ho, Asian Porn Star won the Erotic Spirit prize and Faiyaz Jafri won
Best Animation for his Music Box. SinCiné 2006 carries on the
tradition with three nights of "erotic art films" with a theme of
"Sex, Drugs & Rock 'n' Roll."
Anita Cookie
Ulto, the co-founder of the festival, currently curates a monthly
film series at KGB
Bar presented by HorseTrade
Theater Group and works professionally as a writer, photographer
and filmmaker. She has always been intrigued by how people differentiate
between "porn" and "erotica," and the works presented will vary wildly,
including everything from animation to documentary, soft core to hard
core.
This year there will be quite a few animated shorts, such as "The Age of Ignorance" by Oscar-winning claymation artist Jimmy Picker, and three films by Signe Bauman and Matthew Sheridan's SynThesis. Calling it a "best of and best of the new," Melissa tells us she will be bringing back a few of last year's winners to complement the new films. Featured films include Jimmy Mehiel's Black Jack's Magic Room, Pornoqatsi, Honey & Bunny and Pornographic Apathetic. Many of the filmmakers will be on hand to field questions about their creations.
Each of the three nights will center on one theme, with Tuesday night
being Sex night, Wednesday night celebrating Drugs, and Thursday night
being the night for Rock 'n' Roll. Along with the films screened,
guests will be treated to tantalizing burlesque performances by Miss
Bonnie Dunn, Gigi La Femme, Anita Cookie, Kit Katastrophe, Nasty Canasta,
Smokifantastic, Clea Cutthroat, Cherry Bomb and Scarlet Sinclair.
You'll enjoy a multimedia performance by Amy Greenfield and Bonnie
Dunn.
The awards will be presented on Thursday night. To celebrate closing
night, the Trailer Park Rangers will serve up a sloppy set of dirty
ditties about, yes, sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll.
SinCiné is thrilled to have the support of their sponsors: Babeland, KGB Bar, Bust magazine, Le Roi body piercing salon, Pleasure Chest, Soundpost and Eventmail.com.
